ਪਟਿਆਲਾ:- 6 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ, 2025 (ਪੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ):- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਖੋਜਾਰਥੀ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਪੀਐੱਚ-ਡੀ ਦੀ ਡਿੱਗਰੀ ਲਈ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਖੋਜ ਕਾਰਜ ਤਹਿਤ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਅਹਿਮ ਸਾਫ਼ਟਵੇਅਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਖੋਜ ਕਾਰਜ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿਗਰਾਨ ਡਾ. ਸੀ ਪੀ ਕੰਬੋਜ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਖੋਜ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦੋ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ-ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਟੈਕਸਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਗਲੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਭਵਿੱਖਬਾਣੀ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਫ਼ਟਵੇਅਰ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਹਿਤ ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ ਕਿ ਹਿੰਦੀ, ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ, ਬੰਗਲਾ, ਉਰਦੂ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਾਠੀ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਲਈ ਅਗਲਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਝਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਫ਼ਟਵੇਅਰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਦੋ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ-ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਲਈ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਫ਼ਟਵੇਅਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਸਾਫ਼ਟਵੇਅਰ ਵਟਸਐਪ, ਫੇਸਬੁਕ, ਟਵਿਟਰ ਆਦਿ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਮੰਚਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਲ਼ੀ-ਮਿਲ਼ੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ -ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਟਾਈਪ ਕਰਨ 'ਚ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਲਾਹੇਵੰਦ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਖੋਜਾਰਥੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਲਈ ਦੋ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ-ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਟੈਕਸਟ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਡਾਟਾਬੇਸ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਖੋਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰੀਬ 4 ਲੱਖ ਵਾਕਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਸ਼ੀਨੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਖੋਜ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਡੀਪ ਲਰਨਿੰਗ ਮਾਡਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਟਰਾਂਸਫ਼ਾਰਮਰ-ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਦੱਸਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਡਾ. ਸੀ ਪੀ ਕੰਬੋਜ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਮਾਧਿਅਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਈਟੀ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੀਆਂ 37 ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਲਿਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਲੇਖਕ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਅਜੀਤ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਜਾਗਰਨ, ਦੇਸ਼ ਸੇਵਕ ਆਦਿ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਯਮਤ ਕਾਲਮਨਵੀਸ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ 2500 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲੇਖ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਮੈਗਜ਼ੀਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕਈ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗੀ ਹੁਨਰ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੁਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਬਲ ਬਣਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ।

ਗੂਗਲ ਕਰੋਮ ਐਕਸਟੈਂਸ਼ਨ ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਖੋਜਾਰਥੀ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਲਈ ਕਈ ਚੁਨੌਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਿਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ-ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਸ਼ਰਤ ਡਾਟਾ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸਫ਼ਾਈ ਕਰਨਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਢੁਕਵੇਂ ਮਸ਼ੀਨੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਮਾਡਲ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਾਈਡ ਡਾ. ਸੀ ਪੀ ਕੰਬੋਜ ਦੀ ਯੋਗ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਥੇ ਟੀਚੇ 'ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਖੋਜ ਨੂੰ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਪੁੱਜਦਾ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਗੂਗਲ ਕਰੋਮ ਐਕਸਟੈਂਸ਼ਨ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਲਦੀ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। |

ਡਾ. ਕੰਬੋਜ ਦੀ ਜਾਗਰੁਕਤਾ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਇਸ ਖੋਜ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਸੀ ਪੀ ਕੰਬੋਜ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਵ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ-ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰ ਲਈ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਾਰਜਸ਼ੀਲ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਦਾ ਪੀਐੱਚ-ਡੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਵੀ ਮਾਂ-ਬੋਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਮ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਨ ਲਈ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ, ਅਖਬਾਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਕਾਲਮ, ਬਲੌਗ ਪੋਸਟਾਂ, ਯੂ-ਟਿਊਬ ਵੀਡੀਓਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਡੀਓ-ਟੀਵੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਗਰੁਕ ਕਰਕ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। |
Punjabi University Patiala Researcher Develops Software for ' Next Word Prediction in Bilingual Punjabi-English Social Media Text' aims to Assist Typing Code Mixed Punjabi-English on Social Media Platforms
Patiala, October 6th – Gurpreet Singh, a research scholar in the Department of Computer Science at Punjabi University Patiala has successfully completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. His research work involved creating significant software for the Punjabi language. The core contribution of this research is the development of software for Next Word Prediction in bilingual Punjabi-English social media text. Gurpreet Singh completed this research under the supervision of Dr. C P Kamboj. A review of existing literature revealed that while 'Next Word Suggestion' software has been developed for languages such as Hindi, English, Bangla, Urdu, and Marathi, no such software existed for bilingual Punjabi-English social media text. This new software is expected to be extremely beneficial for typing mixed Punjabi-English on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter. The system will enhance communication efficiency by predicting the subsequent word as the user types. For this project, the researcher prepared a dedicated database (repository) of bilingual Punjabi-English social media text. The machine intelligence-based system was trained using approximately 4 lakh sentences. The research implemented various Deep Learning models and Transformer-based approaches.
To make this technology accessible to the general public, Gurpreet Singh developed a Google Chrome Extension, which will soon be made available. The researcher noted that challenges faced during the project included collecting and cleaning the mixed Punjabi-English data, and selecting the appropriate AI model. He credited his guide, Dr. C P Kamboj whose able leadership allowed him to achieve his intended goal.
Highlighting Dr. C P Kamboj's Mission
Dr. C P Kamboj is renowned for his work in promoting modern technology and computer literacy in the Punjabi language. He stressed that he is continuously active in the development and dissemination of the Punjabi language to fulfill the main objective of Punjabi University. Dr. Kamboj’s own doctoral work was dedicated to the mother tongue.
Dr. Kamboj is the first author to write 37 books on Computer and IT in the Punjabi medium. He has also translated several computer books from English into Punjabi. He is a regular columnist for major newspapers including Rozana Ajit, Punjabi Tribune, Punjabi Jagran, and Desh Sevak, having published more than 2500 articles in various magazines and daily newspapers. Through the Punjabi Computer Help Center at the University, Dr. Kamboj has trained many students, making them employable through practical skill-based education. He continues to raise awareness among common Punjabis about connecting with computers and modern technology through books, newspaper columns, blog posts, YouTube videos, and radio/TV.
